Balbuena, De La Cruz, Compres, Bowcutt , Castillo and Van Eiken Champions of Guibia Surf City Festival 2012 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Surfing Federation (FEDOSURF) held the Güibia Surf City Festival 2012 on April 28 & 29 in Santo Domingo.  With great success, a fun environment and good waves, the event celebrated the attendance of more than fifty athletes from around the country.

The undisputed champions of the various disciplines were:

Open Surfing

1st Place Zion Balbuena, Sosua
2nd place, René Gough, Boca Chica
3rd Place Victor Peralta, Cabarete
4th place Angel Comprés, Cabarete

Open Longboard division

1st Place, Angel Comprés, Cabarete
2nd place, René Gough, Boca Chica
3rd place, Eduardo Lara, Cabarete
4th place, Leon Gough, Boca Chica

Female division Surf

1st Place Katie Bowcutt, Cabarete
2nd place, Maria Jose Nadal, Cabarete
3rd place, Natalia Olmedo, Sosúa

 

Open Bodyboard

1st Place, Raul Van Eiken, Santo Domingo
2nd place, Pascual Silverio, Sosua
3rd place, Jose Manuel Henriquez, Sosua
4th place, Randy Vasquez Nagua

Junior Surfing

1st Place, Alex de la Cruz Encarnacion , Las Terrenas
2nd place, Armando Reid Jr., Punta Cana
3rd place, Edwin Feliz, Bahoruco
4th place, Christian Padilla, Las Terrenas

Surf Mini Junior division

1st Place, Stephen Castillo, Boca Chica
2nd place, Braulio Ortiz de Brito, Boca Chica
3rd place, Gregory Felix, Nizao
4th Place, Demo Rivera, Punta Cana

The championship was notable for the excellent and dynamic work of the team of judges representing different regions and associations of the country, using the modern, fast trial software for surfing competitions, led by Jesmarín Puente, Surfing Association Puerto Plata (ASPP). Participating judges included Luis Taveras of Rio San Juan, Yorger Ferreiras of Santo Domingo, Julfrien Sims of Puerto Plata, Ramses Mejia and Luis Coll of Santo Domingo.

Mr. Nestor Puente, President of FEDOSURF, reported that this national championship, Güibia Surf City Festival, opens a new chapter in the practice and organization of the sport of surfing in the Province of Santo Domingo and the National District. Guibia Beach is the birthplace of surfing in the Dominican Republic, and has recently reopened with a new plaza along the Malecon after a five-year renovation and renewal project by the National District City Council.
