International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA) Hosts Training Clinic in Cabarete
The International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA) returns to the Dominican Republic during Easter Holy Week, Semana Santa 2012 for volunteer training, and will conduct a clinic with members of the Dominican Surfing Federation (FEDOSURF).
ISLA is a California based non-profit organization of volunteer lifeguards whose mission is to reduce drownings worldwide by conducting educational programs, and assisting in lifeguarding and medical response training.
Since 2008, ISLA has performed 108 rescues, 976 preventative actions, and 168 medical aids in the U.S., Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador, and New Zealand. ISLA volunteers have decades of rescue experience based from their involvement with several lifeguarding agencies, including Huntington State Beach Lifeguards, Los Angeles County Lifeguards, Corolla Ocean Rescue and various other agencies.
ISLA is officially recognized as part of the Civil Defense, in charge of certifying lifeguards for the government of the Dominican Republic.
