Dominican Surfers Celebrate “Bride of the Atlantic Surfing Festival 2012″ in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
March 16, 2012 – Amid a spectacular setting in front of the historic Fort of San Felipe on Puerto Plata’s Malecon, the Dominican Surfing Federation (Fedosurf) welcomed athletes at La Puntilla beach on March 11, 2012 to compete in the National Surf Circuit of the 2012 season.
The Open Surf division champion athlete was Pedro Fernandez of Santo Domingo, Junior Surfing champion was Alex De La Cruz Encarnacion, of Las Terrenas and Female Surf champion was Natalia Olmedo of Cabarete.
The divisions Open Surf, Junior Surf and Female Surf successfully completed to final heats, while adverse and sudden weather conditions with unforcasted heavy rains and wind gusts at the end of the championship forced organizers to suspend the culmination of the event. The Open Longboard and Open Bodyboard divisions were unable to compete to the finals.
The sub-division champions Open Surf were: Anderson Hernandez Valdez of Puerto Plata, Eduar ‘Papito’ Santana and Isaac Cross, both of Cabarete. Junior Surf division crowned runners-up: Luis Alfredo Felix of Nizao, Isaac Cross of Cabarete and Esteban Castillo of Boca Chica. The sub-division champions of Female Surf: Rossi ‘Nairobi’ Rosario of Sosua and Maria Jose Nadal of Cabarete.
The Open Longboard division finalists were: Angel Comprés Ramos, Eduar ‘Papito’ Santana, both of Cabarete, and brothers Leon and Rene Gough of Boca Chica. The weather conditions did not allow the realization of the semi-finals for the Open Bodyboard division, with the following athletes scheduled to compete: Pascual Silverio and Neo Martinez of Sosua, Luini Sime and Julfrien Sims of Puerto Plata, Jose Manuel Henriquez of Sosua, Amin Cruz of Puerto Plata, Angel Miguel Mejia of Sosua, Leonar Arias of Puerto Plata and Dilson Jesus of Sosua.
