Dominican Surfers to Compete at the X Pan American Surfing Games in Guadeloupe
The Dominican Republic will be represented by eleven members of its National Team at the X Pan American Surfing Games, to be held in Guadeloupe, the French Island of the Caribbean, November 12 – 20, 2011. This international event is organized by the Pan American Surfing Association (PASA), the Continental governing body of the sport of surfing, uniting the Americas through surf.
The Dominican Surfing Federation (FEDOSURF) selected the participating National Team based on the surfers ranking in the National Open Series of qualifying events held throughout the country in 2011.
With support from FEDOSURF, the Dominican Olympic Committee and the Minister of Sports and Recreation, the athletes competing in the event in the Mens Open Surfing category will be Eduar ‘Papito’ Santana, Roberto Martinez and Ángel Comprés, all of Cabarete, and Anderson Hernandez Valdez of Puerto Plata. Ángel Comprés will also compete in the Longboard division, along with René Gough of Boca Chica. In the Male Junior Surf division, the competitors are Eduar ‘Papito’ Santana, Isaac Cross of Cabarete, and Alex De La Cruz of Las Terrenas. Katie Bowcutt of Cabarete and Rossi ‘Narobi’ Rosario of La Union will represent in the Female Open Surf category. Male Open Bodyboarders are Pascual Silverio of Sosua and Julfrien Sims of Puerto Plata.
The X Pan American Surfing Games will take place in Anse Bertrand, and features a popular beach break on the North coast of the island. A solid swell forecast for the event is predicted. For more information and live streaming of the competition, visit the official website at http://pasasurf.org.
