
The IV National Surfing Championship, ‘Ocean Green Cup’, organized by the Dominican Surfing Federation (FEDOSURF), with the collaboration and sponsorship of the Ministry of the Environment, the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), the Ministry of Sports (MIDERIC), Haina International Terminals, and local businesses in the community, was held on Sunday, June 12 at Manresa Beach, El Chinchorro, in Haina.
The competition was part of a series in June, celebrating “World Ocean Day” and “International Surfing Day” on the island of the Dominican Republic, and an ongoing mission to promote environmental and sustainability awareness for greening our future and the oceans. The Minister of Environment pledged his public support and commitment for the creation of a surf school at Playa Manresa, working along with FEDOSURF, as well as environmental protection for the region. A significant beach cleanup was conducted prior to the competition by event and community organizers.
The champions of the Fourth National surfing competition of the year, in different disciplines were: Brandon Sanford, winning the big trophy “Ocean Green Cup” for the Open Surf division, Eduar ‘Papito’ Santana, winner of Junior Surf, Nicholas Lizardo, for Mini Junior Surf, and René Gough, in Open Longboard (all of Cabarete). Manuel Aquino, was the winner of Open Bodyboard (Santo Domingo), and Nairobi Rosario, Female Surf Division (Sosua).
