The Dominican Republic will be represented by five members of its National Team at the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games, to be held in Peru, October 19-27, 2010. This Olympic style event is organized by the International Surfing Association (ISA), the worldwide governing body of the sport of surfing, and will see over 30 countries and over 200 surfers competing in the Open Men, Open Women and Longboard divisions.
The Dominican Surfing Federation (FEDOSURF) selected their National Team based on the surfers performance and ranking earned in the National Open Series of qualifying events held throughout the country in 2010.
With support from FEDOSURF, The Dominican Olympic Committee and additional sponsors, competing at the event in the Open Surfing category will be Eduar ‘Papito’ Santana of Cabarete, Anderson ‘Cabo’ Hernandez Valdez of Puerto Plata and Junior Gomez of Rio San Juan. Marcell René Gough of Boca Chica will compete in the Longboard category, and Angel Comprés of Cabarete will compete in both the Open and Longboard division. FEDOSURF North Coast Director Jesmarin Puente will attend as Team Manager, along with FEDOSURF President, Mr. Nestor Puente.
The event is held at Punta Hermosa, and features two of the most popular surf breaks on the coast south of Lima. A solid swell forecast for the event is predicted, and water temperatures average 17 degrees Celsius.
